On March 10, 2026, the Town of Stockport resolved to adopt the NYS Climate Smart Communities Pledge.
At a Town Board meeting on April 2, 2026, the Town of Stockport Climate Smart Task Force was established with Supervisor Murell appointing the following members:
John Leone – Councilman, Town of Stockport
Donald Meltz – Community Member, Columbia County CSC Task Force Coordinator
Susan Helden - Community Member, MSc in Environmental Economics
Summer Myer - Community Member, MA in Public Administration in Sustainable Management
Pik Berwick - Community Member
Sara Lawson - Community Member, was appointed at the July 7, 2026 meeting
The purpose of the Climate Smart Task Force is to promote and support climate mitigation and adaption in the Town of Stockport, and advise the Town Board on plans, programs, and activities that are a part of the CSC program.
Also at this meeting, Donald Meltz was appointed by Supervisor Murell as the Climate Smart Coordinator for the Town’s Climate Smart Task Force.
The role of the Town of Stockport Climate Smart Coordinator is to serve as the primary liaison between the Task Force, municipal officials, and the New York State Climate Smart Communities (CSC) program, to assist the Town of Stockport Climate Smart Task Force members with coordination of meetings, project planning and implementation, and to ensure timely submission of documentation to meet Climate Smart Communities program goals.
